President Tsai Ing-wen said in her inaugural speech that her new government aims to take part and make contributions in areas of global concern.

Tsai said that Taiwan has been a model citizen in world society and has consistently upheld the universal values of peace, freedom, democracy and human rights. She said her administration will deepen its ties with friendly democracies including the US, Japan and European countries.

The president also said she will push for international economic and trade cooperation and rulemaking. She said Taiwan will also support and participate in international cooperation in areas including humanitarian and medical aid, disease prevention and research, anti-terrorism cooperation and tackling transnational crime.

Tsai thanked the close to 700 foreign dignitaries who attended her inauguration, saying her government will further promote exchanges with other nations.
