Taiwan’s delegation to this year’s World Health Assembly will depart on Friday to Geneva. The annual meeting of the World Health Organization’s governing body will convene there on Monday.

The delegation of 24 will be led by Minister of Health and Welfare Lin Tzou-yien. Speaking ahead of his departure, Lin said taking part in the WHA concerned professional and practical matters that should not be infringed upon by politics.

Lin will give an address to the assembly on Wednesday. Ministry official Hsu Ming-hui said Lin’s speech would focus on Taiwan’s contributions to international health cooperation.

“We have done a lot in terms of global cooperation on health issues. This is a good opportunity for us to report to the world and to the WHO our past contributions in international medical and health issues and how we intend to strive in this area moving forward,” said Lin.

Lin and his delegation are also expected to hold meetings with other countries on the sidelines of the assembly.
