Legislature President Su Jia-chyuan is urging China to understand the friendly gestures of the DPP government. Su was speaking Friday after President Tsai Ing-wen took office.
“President Tsai recognized that the results of [cross-strait] ties since 1992 should continue and that the two sides should maintain peace and stability. We hope that the Chinese leader will understand President Tsai’s friendly gestures and jointly create cross-strait peace in the future," said Su.
Su however declined to comment on whether Tsai’s discourse on cross-strait ties in her inaugural speech is a nod to the existence of the “1992 Consensus.”
