First offshore wind turbines to start running in May
Economics Minister Lee Chih-kung

Taiwan’s first two offshore wind turbines are set to start operation in May. The turbines are part of the government’s green energy plan to make renewable energy account for 20% of the national power mix by 2025. The new direction could provide 32,000 new job opportunities and generate an output value of NT$203 billion (US$6.7 billion).

Economics Minister Lee Chih-kung said construction of the two turbines has already been completed.

"The wind power project is being made possible through cooperation between departments, including passing regulations regarding projects along the coasts and around wetland areas," Lee said. "The two wind turbines have already been set up. The plan is to wait for the license from the power company for them to officially go into operation."
