The Public Television Service (PTS) has announced plans to raise additional funding for their upcoming production of “Lady the Butterfly”, a historical drama for television.

PTS, an independent broadcasting service in Taiwan, has announced plans to raise more funds for their upcoming production of “Lady the Butterfly”, an epic historical drama series for television.

The series is based on a novel that chronicles the Rover Incident in 1867: the American merchant ship Rover wrecked off the coast of the Island now known as Taiwan, and its crew members were later killed by indigenous tribesmen who sought revenge for earlier invasions by Dutch soldiers. The incident set off a series of reactions from the United States and Japan, which affected the island’s fate and geopolitical status during the ensuing century.

The director of the show, Tsao Jui-yuan, said that by presenting this period in history, he hopes to showcase the natural beauty and some of the brutal aspects of the island more than a century ago.
