The US-Taiwan Initiative on 21st-Century Trade First Agreement Implementation Act has passed by an overwhelming vote of 42 representatives in favor and 0 in opposition. The vote was made at the most recent US House of Representatives’ House Ways and Means Committee meeting.

Committee Chairman Jason Smith, who sponsored the bill, said the bill's passage confirms Congress' strong support for the U.S.-Taiwan partnership. The purpose of the bill is to strengthen and develop the U.S.-Taiwan economic relationship for mutual benefits. It will lay the groundwork for future cooperation and establish transparency and negotiation requirements for further agreements.

Now that the bill has passed through the House Committee, it may be sent to other relevant committees of the House of Representatives for trial before going to the Senate for discussion. The bill will be voted on again by the House of Representatives and the Senate before being submitted to the President to sign into law.
