The ban on group travel to China will be lifted on March 1, 2024, a unilateral move that some of the Taiwanese public has criticized. Transportation Minister Wang Kwo-tsai (王國材) responded on Monday that Taiwan hopes both sides will continue upholding the principles of equality and reciprocity as they open tourism.
However, there has yet to be any positive response from China. Wang says that the government is taking into consideration the livelihood of business owners when making this one-way relaxation of restrictions. He adds that more specific details will be announced before next year’s Spring Festival, as cooperative hotels, ground agencies, and other industry groups will require time to prepare.
