As Taiwan’s National Day is only one week away, the Army is gearing up to fly the largest flag in the air.

Video script:

One of Taiwan’s Chinook helicopters rehearses carrying a large national flag just a week before Taiwan’s National Day celebration with three helicopters flying alongside.

The national flag, which is said to be the largest in history, weighs 45 kilograms or nearly 100 pounds. It is 18 meters long and 12 meters wide.

The flag safely arrives to meet several army personnel for storage. Then, it is ushered into a warehouse to be examined by army servicemen.

Army serviceman Chang Tsung-chan ( 張宗展) explains the method for folding the flag. Chang says an additional national flag is available to use if there’s any malfunction.

Army personnel Liu Hsiu-shih (劉秀實) says the most optimal airspeed for hoisting the national flag is at 72.5 kilometers or 45 miles per hour. Liu says such a speed avoids tearing of the flag in the air.

The national flag is transported by the Boeing CH-47 Chinook, which has a flying range of 1170 kilometers or nearly 727 miles.
