The EU’s top representative to Taipei says he hopes that Taiwan can be a part of the European Green Deal. The deal is an EU initiative aimed at transitioning to zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

EU representative Filip Grzegorzewski said in a radio interview that Taiwan is a leader in green energy. He said the EU and Taiwan are already working closely on offshore wind power.

Grzegorzewski also spoke about Taiwan-EU investment. The EU accounts for one-third of direct foreign investment in Taiwan. Grzegorzewski said that figure is expected to increase by 20% within the next five years. In comparison though, only about 3% of Taiwan’s foreign investment goes to the EU. Grzegorzewski said his office will host the first European Union Investment Forum in Taipei this March as part of an effort to attract more Taiwanese investors.
